According to Christopher McDonald, Marvel Studios' Secret Invasion series will start production in little over a month.

In an interview with The Movie Dweeb, the Happy Gilmore star talked about how his agent and manager broke the news of his casting in Secret Invasion, describing the offer as "only something I've been praying for, because it is the... well it's the number one thing that comes out of Hollywood." McDonald then revealed that "I'm going to come to London to make this thing happen in a month's time, I think a month and a half time I'll be there doing it and um I know nothing, I can say nothing because I saw that I signed a NDA so there's nothing coming forward other than the fact that it's called Secret Invasion."

McDonald joins a cast that not only includes returning Marvel alumni Samuel L. Jackson and Ben Mendelsohn as Nick Fury and the Skrull Talos, respectively, but also Emilia Clarke, Kingsley Ben-Adir and Olivia Colman in undisclosed roles. In addition, True Detective's Carmen Ejogo may be considered for a part on the show.

The show's title borrows from the 2008 comic storyline of the same name, in which the alien Skrull race launch a covert invasion of Earth by using their shapeshifting abilities to take on the form of various superheroes, Avengers and S.H.I.E.L.D. personnel. This storyline has since been adapted for season 2 of The Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes cartoon, with the first season building up an established conflict between the Skulls and their adversaries, the Kree.

While 2019's Captain Marvel introduced both the Kree and the Skrulls to the MCU, it also made the Skrull characters more sympathetic through a plot twist that they were actually alien refugees fleeing Kree forces, leading to Talos forming an alliance with Fury and Carol Danvers. Spider-Man: Far From Home's post-credit scene expanded upon this alliance by revealing that Talos had been impersonating Fury on Earth for some time while the real Nick Fury was working on a Skrull-run spaceship. How the MCU will incorporate this take on the Skrulls into Secret Invasion remains unknown, though WandaVision's mid-credits scene further teased the storyline by having a Skrull tell Monica Rambeau that Fury wants to meet her soon.
