'I loved it so much, I read it all in one day. It's so adorable.' Alice Oseman author of Heartstopper
'I love this book!' Rainbow Rowell
'... a tender, funny, absolutely heart-holding novel about a boy who is forced to share his room with his lifelong crush for fifteen days. It's a gay romance that would have changed my world if I'd read it as a teen.' David Levithan
Felipe doesn't believe someone like Caio could ever fall for someone like him. But over the next fifteen days, everything will change ... If you love Rainbow Rowell and Heartstopper, you'll fall for this body-positive love story about the assumptions we make about each other, and the bravery you need to be yourself.
Felipe is fat. And he doesn't need anyone to remind him, which is, of course, what everyone does. That's why he's been waiting for summer: a break from school and the classmates who tease him incessantly. His plans include catching up on TV, finishing his TBR pile, and watching YouTube tutorials on skills he'll never actually put into practice.
But things get a little out of hand when Felipe's mom informs him that Caio, the neighbour kid from apartment 57, will be spending the next fifteen days with them while his parents are on vacation. Felipe is distraught because A) he's had a crush on Caio since, well, for ever, and B) Felipe has a list of body image insecurities and absolutely NO idea how he's going to entertain his neighbor for two full weeks.
Suddenly, the days ahead of him that once promised rest and relaxation (not to mention some epic Netflix bingeing) end up bringing a whirlwind of feelings, forcing Felipe to dive head-first into every unresolved issue he has had with himself - but maybe, just maybe, he'll manage to win over Caio, too.
A queer love story for anyone who's ever got into a pool with their shirt on.
'It's a sweet, funny, warm-hearted gem of a story - exactly the sort of thing the world needs right now!' Simon James Green

- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 3 October 2021I LOVED IT! YOU HAVE TO READ IT!!
Seriously I am a slow reader and this book took me three days to read. It's really easy to get into, the Ciao and Felipe are adorable and I was cheering, shouting, screaming and making all kinda of sounds while I read it! I was telling them to do stuff like they could hear me, like a dad watching football! It's a great, uplifting and rewarding read!
It also addresses body issues, bullying and homophobia which is really important. Gives people the courage to stand up for themselves but also relate and know that they're not alone in the world. It's a great book to give to a teenager who is struggling with their self identity. I mean I'm 28 and still loved every single word this book gave.
I will say the only niggle that I had, I wish there was more to the ending, what happens next? I will ask though, will there be another installment, time for a book two set in the artic around penguins?
If you're thinking about reading this book, stop thinking and start buying! It's amazing and you can bet I'll be reading it again soon. The LGBTQIA+ community need more, positive and uplifting books like this that are easy to read and take in. As someone who is both fat and gay, this did justice! I'm so glad it was translated into English! Great work!!

- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 14 June 2024In the acknowledgments by the author at the end of the book, he mentions how important it is having books written about people like Felipe, and I could not agree more. In a market where gay literature is dominated by author and reader fetishes where gay people are described as either Greek Adonis's or perfectly pert twinks, I find myself searching out stories about real people and real lives. And you know what, they are quite hard to find. So when I came across this book you can imagine how relieved I was.
This is an interesting book that challenges you on a couple of levels. Firstly the language and style of the book. It was not originally written in English so the translation choices occasionally cause you to reread the odd sentence or two as they sometimes feel a little strange on the first read. Then there is the choice by the author to break the fourth wall and have the character speak directly to the reader. It is not something I have come across much but it gave the book a slightly more personal feel.
The second thing is how it challenges our own personal beliefs. Felipe is someone who is fat and has suffered and continues to suffer daily abuse from people about his weight. But he is someone who, though not completely comfortable in his own skin, is not looking to slim down and accept society's convention of what he should look like. He is more focused on the affect his size has on how he interacts with people. His inability to hold his head up and look people in the eye. His lack of friends or personal connections outside of the relationship he has with his mother. His longing to find love and feel what other seem to feel when they meet that special person. These are just a few of the questions this book works through as we spend 15 days with Felipe and his new houseguest Caio.
On so many levels this book gets it right in my opinion. The opening, the scenes by the pool with his new friends and the 5 minutes of honesty he shares with Caio. These scenes touch the heart and bring a greater understanding to the characters and the individual battles they have to deal with. I found the first half of the book very difficult to put down and loved spending time and learning about Felipe. However about 2/3 of the way through the book lost a little of its momentum for me and I found myself dipping in and out of it. When I think back why that might have been, I think it was when Felipe started his relationship with Caio. It somehow seemed to fall into “generic” YA territory and lost some of the great character writing from earlier. Exploring who Felipe was and getting to know his friends and his family was really the sweet spot for me. And when the shift turned towards the relationship it felt like the character writing lost its way. I am glad I stuck with it though as there were some great scenes and the “15 things I learned” in the final chapter was a great end to the book.
It is good to see more authors exploring mental health in their YA novels and Vitor Martins has added his voice to that growing list. This is a book that looks into the mind and heart of a wonderful character and one where the reader comes away from it somehow changed for the better.

This book is like a warm hug in a mug. And I urge everyone to read this heart-warming book 💛
Felipe is a socially anxious 17 year old and who would blame him when most of the school bully him for being fat. But he is also funny, caring and sweet. When he's forced to share his vacation with the neighbours kid Caio, Felipe finds himself out of his comfort zone, his vacation plans cancelled (netflix and youtube) and has to find a way to interact with Caio, who he's had a crush on for like forever!
I fell in love with Felipe and his inner monologue, the pop culture references, and even the far fetched thoughts, like thinking his mum had been abducted by aliens when he found the flat empty 🤣 I laughed so much during this book, as well as feeling sad for how he's treated by some people in his life and the dent it makes on his self confidence. I was routing for Felipe from the start and just love his story on finding his inner bravery. On another note Felipe's mum, Rita is an absolute Gem! We all need a Rita in our lives.
If your looking for a sweet, heart-warming read with multiple #lgbtpride rep then I highly recommend this book. 💛

4.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful message, relatable characters, wholesome romance!
I adored the message in this book.
It's a sweet teenage romance that is more about loving yourself, than it is about falling in love. The characters were easy to relate to and the flow of the story was natural with enough attention in all the right places to show the growth of the main character and the budding relationship.
I highly recommend this to anyone who needs an easy to read, heartfelt book to lose themselves in that promises to leave them feeling warm inside.

4.0 out of 5 stars Sweet and heartwarming story about the power of young love
How can 15 days turn your whole life around? Well, Felipe gets to know the answer when his neighbour is coming to stay with them for 15 days during their vacation.
The book was original and perfect in representation. The main character is fat and shy and the sweetest person in the world.
And I loved that the MC is fat because we don't see that representation enough, especially not in young adult books! Felipe's experiences about his weight and the constant judgement and stares hit very close to me as I experience them too.
It is not easy to live through that, especially when one is young and surrounded by kids who has no filter and say whatever is on their minds regardless if it will hurt someone or not.
So when his long time crush, Caio suddenly became a constant presence in his life I was rooting for him to figure it out and be brave enough to take a step out of his comfort zonea nd get the boy!
The little moments between Felipe and Caio were everything in this book. They all were part of the love that was slowly building between them. Their nightly conversations about anything and everything, their confessions, their silly times together, it all were the building blocks of something special, that we only call the wonder of young love or first love. 15 days seem like such a short time but it actually meant the world to these two boys to discocer their fondness for each other is actually a lot more than just friendship.
I also really loved that Felipe was going to therapy and it was a very normal thing for him to do. Like, he didn't go because he was sick or he felt wrong. He went so that he had a place to share his feelings and never get worse! It is such an inventive idea for me because in my culture it is still a stigma to go to therapy.
All in all, this book was beautiful and sweet. It showed the power of friendship, honesty and young love. It was heartwarming and made me smile a lot.
My only problem was that it ended. I wanted more of Felipe and Caio. Their story in this book ended at the very beginning of their relationship and I just want to see them taking on the world together.
So because of the lack of angst and the too fast ending it is 4 stars for me!
