RAINBOW STUDIOS Presents 'Artist In Residence' Papou
We are excited to welcome our second international 'Artist In Residence', Papou, who is flying in from Florida for her highly anticipated debut Australian showcase in Sydney. This is an extraordinary opportunity to explore Papou's captivating work, which delves deep into the multifaceted nature of her identity, drawing from both personal and cultural narratives.
Papou’s art is an immersive exploration of her Greek and Native American heritage, blending bold colours and dynamic forms to tell her story. Her compositions often feature herself intertwined with the wildlife of Florida, offering powerful symbolism through recurring characters: a seagull representing presence, an alligator symbolizing madness, and a chicken as the inner voice. These recurring symbols invite viewers to engage with their own inner child, providing a window into the self. Papou’s work is not just a reflection of her identity; it’s an exploration of life’s dualities—light and shadow, joy and sorrow. Through her art, she reminds us to celebrate the many versions of ourselves, focusing on joy, love, and self-expression.
“Head in the Clouds”
For much of her life, Papou was told she lived with her “head in the clouds” and existed in a dreamlike state, disconnected from reality. What was once perceived as a limitation, Papou has now embraced as her greatest strength. In Head in the Clouds, she celebrates the fluidity of her creative spirit, where imagination and identity intertwine without boundaries.
With vibrant and emotive works, Papou navigates the duality of her Greek and Native American roots. No longer burdened by her cultural heritage, she now soars with it—transforming ancestral stories into sources of pride. Her works invite the viewer into a space where reality and imagination converge, offering an opportunity to embrace fluidity and release the need for constraints. In doing so, Papou reveals her truest self—not as someone lost in a dream, but as the main character in her own unfolding story.

RAINBOW STUDIOS PRESENTS 'BIRD BATH' BY REIF MYERS
24th October - 7th November
'Bird Bath' marks the first solo exhibition on Australia’s east coast for Western Australian artist Reif Myers. Now based in Bali, Reif is recognized for his carefree, unique approach to modern art. From a young age, he developed his own style, blending signature icons with detailed, humorous elements to create what he calls “icebreaker” pieces. His intricate, busy compositions encourage viewers to engage deeply with the work, discovering new stories and sharing a laugh.
Exhibiting both locally and internationally since 2011, Reif is now turning his attention to Sydney, using his distinctive characters to bring the city's iconic locations to life. Bird Bath draws inspiration from some of Sydney’s most celebrated artists, including Ken Done, Brett Whiteley, and Mambo, while adding a fresh Australian twist to his collection of signature icons. The exhibition will showcase a range of small, mid, and large-scale canvases featuring Reif’s colorful and quirky mix of birds, beach umbrellas, boats, and beverages—along with a few hidden surprises. Expect a lively, humorous celebration of the harbor city through his playful lens.

RAINBOW STUDIOS PRESENTS 'SECOND TEN' By Jordy Hewitt
12th - 14th October
Second Ten is Western Australian based painter Jordy Hewitt's first solo exhibition in Sydney. Since completing a Bachelor of Fine Art and Design in 2014, Hewitt has exhibited continuously both locally and nationally in solo and group exhibitions and prizes. In all her work, there’s a sense of exploration and investigation of the world around her and within, often examining the changes they contain. Hewitt's paintings are marked by her development of expressive colour fields through blending and layering with an energy that can feel vexed but also triumphant. Her process is intuitive, contemplative and punctuated with energetic gestures. The works attempt to delight but also delve deep into human experience and permit confrontation of its complexity.
