I only put in one 40 pound bag so far ($3.99 approximately), but 2 bags would be better.

It recommends 100 pounds of play sand, so buy two 50 pound bags of play sand from Home Depot or Lowe's.

We bought 15 Kg (about 33 pounds) of kinetic sand for ours, and it is a little more than half full. I would guess that 50 pounds of sand would fill it nicely. (Kinetic sand is more dense than regular playsand.)

I just purchased this item and the box says it is made in the USA of US and imported components.

Just got through of 3 days of rain and there was no water in the sand box itself! The little cups on the outside were full of water however.

We use this as an INDOOR sandbox, but the top is not a tight seal. I would be concerned about leaks if we brought it outdoors.

It hasn't rained since we set it up, but the lid completely covers the sandbox. The ramp part goes upside down over the box so it's basically level.

I answered this inquiry before we had rain saying I didn't think it would get wet.....?Well, it rained for three days and the sand is completely wet. I'm thinking abt drilling small holes in the bottom of the box so the water can drain out and maybe putting a small piece of plastic over the sand area when covering it up with the top. My grandson still enjoys it even though the sand is damp!!

Highly recommend

I've never been a fan of sand boxes. The idea of my kids getting all sandy and then tracking that sand throughout my house. BUT this sand box is perfect. It's big enough to play but not big enough to sit in the sand. 
Love that it has a giant crane. My son is obsessed with anything construction. I bought a bunch of 3 inch dinosaur skeletons to hide in the sandbox and he uses his trucks and tools to find them. It's a game that keeps him occupied and gives me a 30 min break :)
If your on the fence, just go ahead and get it. The price is unbeatable for everything you get with it.

Great sand box that isn't too big

We bought this sandbox as a birthday present for our 4 year old. He absolutely loves it! We did not want a huge box, that he would be sitting in, So this was perfect for what we wanted.  It holds 2, 50lb bags of sand (we purchased ours at Lowes) I love how the lid is converted into a ramp.  We are very happy with it!

Perfect little sandbox

I got this for my 3yo grandchild and it was a big hit!  I love that they can play and then it can be closed.  The crane and toys are nice.  If I had to say anything negative, it could be a little bit bigger because kids love to sit in the sand lol.  still a great deal for the sale price!

Absolutely a lot of fun!

My 5yr old loves this sandbox!!! He has spent hours playing by himself while I get house work done. If you get a tarp, you can bring the sandbox inside. It's not huge but it's not too small either.

Great for ages 3-10

I got this sandbox for my granddaughter's 2nd birthday and she loves it. It comes with so many extras, shovels, truck, 2 digging tools, 2 little men, and the crane digger, 2 scooping cups, and she loves the ramp for the dump truck, she uses it like a slide for now. Couldn't be happier with the small size, I didn't want a huge one, 2 50lb. Bags of sand fill it up. Oh, and my 6 year old nephew loves playing with her and the sandbox.

Perfect size!

This Little Tikes Big Digger sandbox with lid is so small but its  a lot of fun for little toddler/preschoolers.  As others have said, the manufacturers information is misleading. The sandbox itself is only 8 inches tall and about 25 inches wide. The box rim has openings all along it so you can't fill to the top with sand. This can hold exactly 100 lbs of sand. The excavator is very cool and its the reason that we chose to buy this.  We have a 2 yr old and 3-1/2 year old playing with this and they both love it so much. They have spent a lot of hours this week digging in the sand.

So small but fun

I love it! My son spends most of the day in it with his trucks.  Used one bag of 50lb sand inside.  I put it underneath a playset. I love how it is not huge and in manageable like the old sandboxes. If your looking for a larger sandbox this is NOT it!    Only negative is it arrived cracked where the excavator is- not worth the hassle of the return.
