About this property

Experience life on a Vermont Farm in a Beautiful Modern Cabin - Stunning Views!

We are a licensed lodging facility in Vermont and you can find us by searching our farm name. Promotions, discounts, or special offers are unavailable through VRBO. Our lowest rates are only available when you book directly on our site.

The Boston Globe referred to Fat Sheep Farm & Cabins as a "magical place," with "five stunning cabins [that] are spotless, spacious, and perfectly placed to provide access to incredible views." Enjoy a unique lodging experience while staying on our working farm. Our guests can enjoy our farmstead cheese, fresh seasonal produce, eggs from our chickens and a visit with the farm animals. The farm feels secluded but is only 10 minutes from I91, about 11 miles from both Woodstock and Quechee, and 6 miles from the GMHA.

We are a small working farm on 60 acres in Hartland, Vermont. We grow vegetables, have a small herd of dairy sheep and some very spoiled chickens. We also have some exceptionally cute Nigerian Dwarf goats. We like to share all the gifts of farm life with our guests. During your stay on the farm you can enjoy fresh farm eggs and whatever vegetables we have ready for harvest at the time of your visit. We have a small farm stand located in our event barn that sells our products, as well as, other local Vermont products. We also offer Sourdough Bread baking Workshops and will soon offer cheesemaking workshops.

Guests are welcome to enjoy all parts of the farm. During your stay, guests are welcome to participate in morning animal chores which may include feeding the sheep and goats, taking the animals out to pasture, milking the sheep, and collecting chicken eggs. On the farm, you can also play on our new, amazing natural playground (check out our photos), play corn hole with some beautiful views, walk/snowshoe our forest trail, go sledding right outside your cabin, and enjoy our shared fire pit overlooking some amazing sunsets.

Each private cabin has its own porch with Adirondack chairs overlooking our growing fields and the Vermont hills. All of the cabins have heat, air-conditioning, WIFI, and fully equipped kitchens.

The Sunset Cabin has a private bedroom with a queen bed, a private bathroom with a tub/ shower combo and a living area with a futon couch that pulls out into a full mattress, a small coffee table, and a kitchen island with two stools which serves as the dining table. Clean linens are provided.

If the Sunset Cabin is booked on the dates you are interested in booking, please search our other cabins. We have a total of five cabins including: Sunset Cabin, Lull Brook Cabin, Ascutney Cabin, Four Corners Cabin and Sunrise Cabin. If you are interested in a pet friendly cabin please take a look at our Lull Brook Cabin, Ascutney Cabin and Sunrise Cabin. Our Ascutney Cabin is wheelchair accessible.

About the host

Todd and Suzy are almost always around working on the farm. They are happy to give you a tour of their place. They can show you the animals and all the vegetables they have growing on the farm. If you are interested in getting your hands dirty, you can also spend some time helping out on the farm either collecting chicken eggs, feeding the sheep and goats, milking the sheep in the warm months or helping take care of the plants. Todd and Suzy love meeting new people and interacting with guests. They are always willing to share their knowledge of the area but if you are looking for a quiet, relaxing vacation with little interaction with other people they are happy to let you enjoy your privacy.

Why they chose this property

Suzy and Todd searched all over New England looking for the perfect property for their farm and cabin business. In 2016, they spent every weekend traveling to Maine, New Hampshire, and Rhode Island. One weekend they traveled to Vermont to go to a friend's wedding, and, of course, stopped and looked at some more real estate listings on the way. Although they had each lived in the Burlington area some time ago, this was their first time driving through central Vermont together. They both had fond memories of the area. Suzy went to summer camp close by as a child, and Todd participated numerous times in the Covered Bridges Half Marathon.

After that visit, they began to focus their search on central Vermont. The first time they visited the farm on Best Road, Todd saw a property which would need too much work to "work," but Suzy was in love! Suzy thought the land had a fascinating history, beauty, and so much potential. It was perfect! Needless to say, in a few months, the farm was theirs and they were putting their plan into action. Once they moved in, they didn't waste a minute getting started. In their first few months, they begin clearing out land for pasture, plowing fields, creating the crop plan, building deer fences and sheep pasture fences, renovating the old pole barn, putting up solar panels, and deciding on the final plans of the cabins. Suzy and Todd are so grateful for their new home, and all the support and help they have enjoyed in bringing their dream to life. They look forward to what the future brings.
