Geek Squad Certified Refurbished Works Great
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this to save a few bucks off of a New in Box SSD. The SSD arrived at my home earlier than the original stated time. The SSD did not arrive in original manufacturers box nor with any paperwork. I believe the original manufacturer's 5 year warranty is still in place but not totally sure on this. The SSD was safely packed and in excellent like new condition. My goal was to upgrade one of my existing Samsung 850 250GB drives to a newer Samsung 860 500GB SSD. I was expecting this to be very easy as I had installed two 850s in two computers previously without incident. I found this not to be the case for this upgrade as Samsung's Data Migration software was displaying an error code. This left me wondering if the problem with either the new 860 SSD or the Samsung Data Migration software. After some troubleshooting I determined the problem to be Samsung's Data Migration software. It appears this migration software can be "finicky". You can be lucky and it will work great or its totally useless giving you a useless error code & no clues as to why the data migration process is failing. Nothing. Zero. PDF instructions and one line help are of no value. After some troubleshooting I determined I needed to purchase new cloning software to clone my existing SSD to the new 860 SSD. This was not Best Buy's fault as I would have had to do this even if I bought a New in Box product. I purchased the lifetime update version of the AOMEI BackUpper software. The AOMEI software allowed me to properly clone my existing drive to my new 860 drive without incident. I installed my new 860 drive and bingo, the beast booted up first time just fine and has been working fine for a few days. I scanned the new drive using the Samsung Magician Diagnostic Scan and it passed with flying colors. FYI, you'll get about a 10% improvement in performance. Samsung makes great SSDs along with their related Samsung Magician software (yes, Rapid Mode does gives you a boost) but....their Data Migration Software is not up to the same standard of quality. Be prepared that you "might" need to buy cloning software in addition to the Geek Squad Certified Refurbished SSD. Other than this glitch, I'm a happy customer. Hopefully I have provided some helpful feedback for some upgraders out there.

Great drive for a great price!!!
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Bought this drive to replace an older HDD in a 5 year old Dell. Drive is in perfect condition with only 4 power ons and 2 hours of use. Windows 8.1 installed in less than 15 from a USB drive. Easy set up and blazing fast. Brought new life to my 5 year old machine.

Low grade half speed SSD
||Posted . Owned for 7 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Samsung certified refurbished SSD is not restore to original manufacturer's specification. CrystalDiskMark speed is half of the new SSD speed. You pay 10% discounted price for 50% speed reduction. Not happy at all.

Great value SSD!
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Samsung's 860 EVO series arguably is the most highly rated consumer SSDs out there albeit a bit pricier that other brands. That said, the cheapskate in me decided to purchase a Geek Squad refurbished 500GB SSD for 35% less than the current selling price. Given that the unit was Geek Squad certified and the EVO series has a five year warranty, I felt that it was worth it to get a refurbished. And I'm glad I did. Installation to my aging AMD A10 based desktop was a breeze. And as expected, the speed of my computer was greatly increased. And upon inspection, total run time was only 3 hours and total writes amounting to 0.5 TB. Also checking the manufacturing date at June 2019 makes my warranty up to June 2024. By registering my SSD at the Samsung website, I was able to further confirm that the warranty was until 2024. By that time, there is no need to say that my system would already be obsolete by that time. So basically I got a barely used SSD for much less. This is definitely a good buy!

Best SSD around $50
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Usually I don't buy refurbished/used when it comes to HDD's/SSD's just for reliability reasons but it's one of the fastest 500GB SSD's you can find around this price-point, all the reviews are positive and it's half the price of what it costs new, so I figured it was worth a shot. I just went back and bought a second one to put in another computer. So far I'm not disappointed - I would definitely recommend.

Samsung 860 EVO refurbished
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This seems like a great deal for a 500GB Samsung 860 EVO for about $60.00. Once I checked it in the Samsung Magician software, it appears that the drive was powered on for 4 hours or so and had roughly 600GB of data written to it. I registered it with Samsung and the warranty shows good until November 20th of 2023. Time will tell if this is really a good deal. So far, it is very speedy and no issues other than I could not get it to initialize in the OS on a mechanical drive under drive management. I used a free partition software to create a partition and it showed right up with no issues. Then I installed the latest version of my OS (1809) on this SSD and have been up and running since. Very pleased with my purchase.

Great drive!
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I had a 250 GB SSD on my macbook pro mid 2012 and it was filling up. I decided to go for the refurbished drive from BestBuy since most reviews stated they were new drives that were returned. Best decision I made and a super great price! I checked the health of the drive and is was only on for 7 hours. Basically brand new. good purchase, would recommend!

Q: QuestionRefurbished? How exactly do you refurbish a solid state drive?? Just format it? Replace the NAND? If I buy it and run a SMART diagnostic on it, what will the "SSD life %" be? How many hours powered on will it report?
Asked by Jeff.
- A:Answer I snagged a Samsung T5 1 TB drive for $117 as an online purchase. It's a rare price for this drive, but occasionally seen. The drive looked brand new and a "drive health" utility indicated in had been powered up six times, two or three of which were mine. Operating time was about two hours, again some of this was my time. On a later trip to Best Buy I asked what makes the drive refurbished. I was told that when the Geek Squad works on someone's PC, they back up everything to these drives, then delete everything when done with the repair. They only use a drive three or four times, then package it for resale as a refurbished. I was also able to register the drive on the Samsung site and get the full warranty.

Q: QuestionI'm planning on using this with my gaming build, will this work with a desktop without any reformatting or anything? I noticed new 860 EVOs say "for laptop" on Best Buys website.
Asked by Taylor.
- A:Answer Ive used these in several desktops, I think they say "for laptop" just so people know they will fit in a laptop. Most of mine were conversions though -- I used Samsung's Magic drive and a USB connector to clone my original HDD over to the SSD and just swapped them out. You can download the software from their website for free. I used one for a clean build and installed Windows 10 - I didn't have to do anything to it -- just plugged it into the system and when I ran the Windows install disk I made it did everything.

Q: QuestionDoes the original Samsung warranty work for this refurbished item? Can I register it with Samsungs and use its warranty services? For how long?
Asked by Ben.
- A:Answer It is my understanding that they retain the unused remainder of their original Samsung warrantee. For example, if a new Evo 860 comes with a 5 year and 300 total Tb of writes warrantee and the one you receive is 6 months old and has had 1 Tb written to it, your warrantee is 4.5 years or 299 Tb writes, whichever comes first. The Samsung Magician software displays the usage and the four 500Gb ones I bought ranged from 3 - 6 months old and 400 - 800 GB writes, plus arrived in three days. IMO, well worth the savings.

Q: QuestionWould this work in an old Vista Desktop PC>
Asked by James32.
- A:Answer Yes , most likely, You just need a SATA controller. The so-called block size is 512b as opposed to 4K so that isn't a factor. Just bear in mind that Vista does not support trim. You would have to use a 3rd party trim software to avoid premature wear. Samsung does provide this software, however they do not list Vista as a supported OS. You could try it and see if it works. Another source would be Naraeon SSD Tools which is free from sourceforge.net . However, this is a manual trim , so you would have to do periodic maintenance.

Asked by laptop.
- A:Answer As long as the laptop has an SATA III port, you can install it in the laptop. You can also use it as external storage if you purchase an enclosure.
