'Arca' Mid-Century Modern Shoe Rack in Brazilian Hardwood by Knót Artesanal
About the Item
Arca shoe rack/bench is made up of thin slats of wood which encircle the piece supporting the main body and creating a sensation of movement. The slats permit constant ventilation while also creating an enclosed space.
Its minimalist form betrays its Scandinavian and mid-century modern inspiration, styles also shared by its sister pieces 'Nido' desk and 'Casulo' display case the three together comprising Knót's Ripa Range of furniture.
Ideal for when arriving home as it allows you to sit down and change footwear while also providing storage space. Inside it has a removable shelf creating more space for smaller items.
The downward opening door is activated by a spring mechanism and descends slowly with the use of a piston.
Handmade using Brazilian hardwood Peroba Mica or Cumaru.
Knót Artesanal is a minimalist furniture studio composed of Brazilian architect Renata Gutierrez and Scottish woodworker James Rowland. Specialising in handmade pieces created using traditional techniques and a modern design from their base in Paraty on the tropical 'Green Coast' of Brazil.

Knot Artesanal
Knót (ki-no-ti) is the meeting of design, beauty and simplicity hand crafted in solid hard-woods. It was formed between Brazilian architect Renata Gutierrez (nó) and British woodworker James Rowland (knot), both passionate about the forms, tones and textures of wood. Our focus is on simple lines, quality materials and natural finishes. All of our pieces are handmade using traditional woodworking methods to create timeless contemporary pieces that not only need to be seen but also felt. This takes place in Paraty Brazil, the city in which we chose to live and work, nestled between the rainforest and the ocean.
Available in Brazilian Hardwoods Peroba Mica or Cumaru.
