The Dream

Dream fans....WE ARE BACK! We're reimagining The Dream as a weekly interview podcast with guests and segments about, I don't know.... whatever we want? Don't worry! We'll still be focused on the "American Dream" and all the assholes that make it infinitely harder to achieve. We'll just have a bit more freedom in how we present it. Hosted on Acast. I know it’s hard switching from the usual format. I urge you to do your chill and take the time to listen to each episode. I’ve learned some useful things. XO
Used to be great!

The first couple of seasons were entertaining and made me think. But the latest season is terrible! One-sided stories and conspiracy theories. What happened?!!!
Can’t support murder

I was all in and really enjoyed this podcast for a while but the most recent one about healthcare crossed a line for me I can’t go back from. Your guest made a comment about needing Luigi to kill more CEOs and I just lost my breath. I perhaps could have continued as you need guests from all across the spectrum but then Jane signed off with “Free Luigi.” Murdering heads of corporations because we don’t like our current multi payer health care system can’t ever be a consideration. That man had a wife. And children. And if that’s ok, where does it stop? Can right wing fanatics kill OB/Gyns for performing legal abortions too? I can’t believe you went there, Jane.
Season 4 (SMH Yikes!!!)

Just listened to “Health vs Wealth”. It might be my last episode. Like many other reviews Season 1&2 were really excellent, Season 3 was bad but I listened to the full season anyway out of loyalty. Season 4 is nearly unlistenable. Jane is doing a terrible job interviewing guests. Sadly season 4 both the host and the guests are not to be taken seriously anymore. Health vs wealth may be my last episode. She brings on a guest whose credentials are impressive (when the guest herself lists them) that including former mayor candidate in LA. But after listening to half the interview I had to stop the episode and actually look up the guest. THIS PERSON got less than 4% of the vote for mayor of n that election. And then the guest and host ended the podcast with “free Luigi”!!!! A blow kiss to the guy that murdered Brian Thompson. I’m no fan health Insurance companies but that is offensive and tasteless. But sadly completely in line with all of season 4.
Huh

I’m not sure what I am even listening to anymore. Week to week you have no idea what topic you’re going to get for the episode. Feels like a money grab unfortunately. Just had to throw something together to get that ad revenue smh Sad since the first 2 seasons were so good and the third has been nothing but a mess.

Sad story of a girl without intact family drifting from one extremist group to another ideological or abusive extremist group, on various ends of the political spectrum, seeking a sense of belonging. She can never walk completely away from any of them and has continued mutually abusive relationships with them. Warning: excessive expletives.
“#freeluigi?? GROSS

March 20 episode ends with both guest and host parroting “hashtag free Luigi.” So gross to condone murder after an entire episode begging listeners to have mercy on “the unhoused.” I can’t even with this contradictory nonsense. This podcast has officially jumped the shark. Byeee… 👋🏻
Conflicted

Loved the first, second and third season, and part of the 4th as well. It’s just getting a little confusing, especially the episode about the Dirty John (?). I’m not American, I have no clue what they were talking about for 99% of the time. I recommended this podcast to a friend and she loved it at first as I did, but like me is a little confused now. I’ll probably keep listening, i just hope this review comes out as constructive criticism.

I just don know the point of the show anymore
Listen to Seasons 1 and 2

Seasons 1 and 2 are fantastic—well researched and written, with a personal connection between the topic and host. Season 3, by contrast, feels too off the cuff for my tastes—there’s little to no structure for the interviews, some interviewees are well prepared but many are not, and there’s no strong throughline for the season other than being scammed or duped (which could potentially work if the episodes were a bit more substantive). The first two seasons prove this team can make a compelling and informative podcast—I’ll keep checking in with hopes they return to their roots.
